When a PDF is in the rendering phase, the progress indicator (currently a text number) blends in with the rest of the page far too easily.

Either a colored progress bar or some other type of better visual cue is needed to show progress.

The progress of PDF rendering is visible, even if it might not pop out of the page. We voted against fancy progress indicators which require javascript etc.
