Description matthew.t.craig@gmail.com 2009-01-27 23:56:54 UTC
Using the default setting with ffmpeg2theora, videos encoded with this software do not work within the Cortado applet.

The Theora-encoded videos play fine when downloaded locally, both on my system and other test cases.

The version used of ffmpeg2theora was downloaded from the v2v website, compiled locally on a 64-bit linux desktop system.

Have tried to upload several files so far, with the same results. These can be seen in the "Politics videos" category.

Hmm, videos that I encode in ffmpeg2theora work fine. WFM?
Comment 2 Jan Gerber 2009-01-28 15:21:30 UTC
The problem is that the binary of ffmpeg2theora-0.23 on 64bit linux was by mistake using the upcoming thusnelda encoding libarary.
Older versions of cortado are not able to playback files encoded with thusnelda. a recent version of cortado from
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/cortado/
will be able to play these files.

i am also about to replace the ffmpeg2theora-0.23 binary for 64bit with a version using the mainline encoder.
(waiting for the upload to be finished, so should be done tomorrow)

Question for Tim Starling: Would you rather update Cortado or keep Thusnelda out of the supported codecs? I would think the latter option is better, but I will wait on your response before re-encoding my 70-80 videos.

Tim, can we do a test with the updated Cortado, and if things are working nice let's consider a live update...
Comment 5 matthew.t.craig@gmail.com 2009-02-05 18:38:11 UTC
Short update. The 64-bit binary application ffmpeg2theora has been updated as of the beginning of Feb 2009. The application no longer encodes in Thusnelda.

Can I close this bug? Cortado has been /mostly/ spec complete for a while now.

What about the version Wikimedia is using? Please see comment 4.

the updated applet added in r57317, freed is looking at deploying it.
Comment 9 Michael Dale 2010-01-24 21:53:46 UTC
The new cortado was deployed a while back. I am no longer seeing the cortado theora 1.1 artifacts
