Description Mike.lifeguard 2009-01-15 17:44:04 UTC
Our new logo is done!

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks_new_logo.svg is the version for English Wikibooks - other language editions can use http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks_simple_book_blue_beige_notext.svg until their translation is ready.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=1344022 shows all versions (ie there is a favicon there -- dunno if that needs to be set separately)
Comment 1 Huib abigor Laurens 2009-01-15 17:55:24 UTC
Hello,

Please add this logo to simple.wikibooks.org also, No need to translate that one :).

Thank You,

Huib

Apologies, the logo (for English text) is http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks-logo-en.svg / http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks-logo-en.png and is uploaded locally to English Wikibooks (and Simple English Wikibooks) as Wiki.png (135x135) - the other languages still have http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks-logo.svg / http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks-logo.png

I've updated the English/default logo for wikibooks. Those languages which have a local override already set will need to update their local Wiki.png file appropriately if they haven't already.
Comment 5 Mike.lifeguard 2009-01-16 21:33:58 UTC
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikibooks-favicon.png is 16x16, which Brion said would be converted to an .ico and set for Wikibooks projects.

Closing logo request.
See bug 17049 for the favicon request!

Sorry, you've set the default Wikibooks logo to the English one.

The default "fallback" logo has the English slogan. Please change the default so Wikibooks projects which don't have their own local logo set have http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/Wikibooks-logo-en-noslogan.png as their logo - which has no slogan:

'wgLogo' => array(
    # Defaults
    'default'           => '/images/wiki-en.png',
    'wikibooks'         => 'http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/Wikibooks-logo-en-noslogan.png',
...

The English and Simple English Wikibooks should have their logos with english text set:

    'enwikibooks'        => 'http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikibooks/en/b/bc/Wiki.png',
    'simplewikibooks'    => 'http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikibooks/en/b/bc/Wiki.png',

Currently these are not defined, so they use the (incorrect) default.

The current situation means that non-English wikis are seeing English text on their logos. It also means that when English Wikibooks updates their logo, it changes the logo on many wikis which don't have a localized version set - this should not be the case. Wiki.png on English Wikibooks is the logo for English Wikibooks (and simple) - not the fallback/default.

English default has always been the case. Updates generally shouldn't happen, since it's supposed to be consistent.
Comment 9 Brion Vibber 2009-01-23 01:33:16 UTC
Adding this to Rob's wiki config update pile for now...
Comment 10 Rob Halsell 2009-02-16 15:10:44 UTC
I am not exactly sure what there is to update on this. The defaults are set to the updated logo, which according to the history in this ticket, is what it should be. So it looks like it is completed.

Sorry for the confusion; the default should still be changed to http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/Wikibooks-logo-en-noslogan.png

Then the enwikibooks logo needs to be changed from the default to the English one, which is what the default is currently set to: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikibooks/en/b/bc/Wiki.png

This is so that English gets the English logo, but other languages (which don't override the default with their own localized version) don't see the English slogan. They instead get the version without a slogan.
Comment 12 Rob Halsell 2009-02-24 19:04:17 UTC
This has been accomplished. The standard is no longer with english text, and enwikibooks has a local override for the en logo.

Thanks Rob. Again, apologies for the confusion.
