Description Mike Peel 2009-01-12 18:35:25 UTC
Following on from the weekend's resolution of approval for the new Wikimedia UK (see http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikimediauk-l/2009-January/003535.html), we would like to have a chapter wiki set up at uk.wikimedia.org to replace the existing area on meta (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_UK) and the existing website (http://www.wikimedia.org.uk/).

Please could this wiki be set up as soon as possible, so that we can start populating it?

Thanks,
Mike Peel (User:Mike Peel)

Further to this: if possible, we would like the wiki to use unified login, with the current board members of Wikimedia UK given bureaucrat access. The appropriate usernames (from meta) are:

- User:AndrewRT
- User:Cfp
- User:KTC
- User:Mike Peel
- User:Warofdreams

Thanks,
Mike Peel

Readable and editable by everyone?
Comment 3 Tom Holden 2009-01-21 15:31:42 UTC
Provisionally, yes.

Official pages will be protected, everything else will be open for editing.
Comment 4 Mike Peel 2009-01-21 15:33:48 UTC
At least initially, yes. We'll use page protection on things that only the chapter board members should be able to change.

Thanks,
Mike Peel

Things that require restricted reading can probably be stored elsewhere (Google Docs, maybe?).
Comment 6 Mike Peel 2009-01-21 15:36:28 UTC
Yes - restricted reading material will be elsewhere (probably offline). Everything on this wiki should be readable by all.

New wiki setup for you, Rob...

dbname: ukwikimedia
site: wikimedia

A section will need to be manually added to wikimedia.conf I think. No new docroot directories needed.

$wgLang should be overridden to 'en-gb' in InitialiseSettings.php.
Comment 8 Rob Halsell 2009-01-26 22:38:50 UTC
This has been completed, except for two things:

Firstly, I neglected to over-ride the language code when I created the database, so it assumed UK meant Ukraine, not United Kingdom. It has been fixed, but the default start page will need to be deleted and re-created.

Secondly, since its SUL, I cannot easily promote any users to 'crat until they login to the wiki first. Then myself or any steward can do so.

I am going to close this ticket now, however, if you would like me to promote the users you listed above once they login, please do feel free to re-open it!
Comment 9 Mike Peel 2009-01-26 23:45:03 UTC
Please could the import function be enabled, so that the existing content on the meta wiki can be imported without breaking the GFDL-required history? Either directly importing from meta.wikimedia.org or using uploads would be fine.

The language code and user points are not issues - the first page has been deleted, and the local bureaucrats (currently me and cfp) can promote other users to crat status as required.

Thanks!
