Why is this page http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=fifromflickr&uploadformstyle=plain being served with the user interface set to English instead of Suomi (Finnish)? (It says e.g. "my preferences" at the top, even if I set my user interface language to "cs - Czech" in my preferences!) It should return the page with the Suomi interface, i.e. it should say "asetukset" instead of "my preferences". The page http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=fi&uploadformstyle=plain is served properly in Suomi, and the page http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=frfromflickr&uploadformstyle=plain is properly served in French. There seems to be some configuration difference for the Commons between fr/French and fi/Suomi. Please correct that such that the Common's uselang-hack works for all language prefixes.
*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 16870 ***
Nope, this is *** not a duplicate of bug 16870! *** This part was mentioned in 16870, but it is unrelated to the cause there and has nothing to do with the Javascripts used on the commons. (uploadformstyle=plain switches these JS enhancements off anyway). It is some config problem and concerns the sidebar and the user links at the top, as well as the page title (it shouldn't say "Upload file" either)!
Why is this filed as a bug here? Isn't the uselang hack invented and maintained by Commons admins with no involvement of developers or sysadmins? You should complain to them.
Well, I didn't invent the uselang hack. But I was under the impression that it also needed some server-side configuration to make it work (fallback languages and such). I may be mistaken, though. Check the German upload form for comparison: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=defromflickr&uploadformstyle=plain This is served with a German sidebar and German user links at the top. It says "beobachtungsliste" instead of "my watchlist" at the top, as it should. Yet there is no /defromflickr subpage the [[:commons:MediaWiki:Watchlist]] message... (though I note that there _is_ a /frfromflickr subpage). http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&from=Watchlist%2F&namespace=8 So, either I'm looking at the wrong message definition, or there is some black magic going on server-side that the server knows that the fallback language for "defromflickr" is "de", not the site's default language (which would be "en"). But for "fifromflickr", it somehow doesn't know that.
Ok, I think I got it. It _was_ the wrong message. I should have looked at [[:commons:MediaWiki:Mywatchlist]] instead, which indeed does have a lot of "uselang hack" subpages and is lacking the ones for fi-Suomi. http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&from=Mywatchlist&namespace=8 Apparently whoever configured that fi upload form did it only halfway. :-( So it's indeed configured all on-wiki.
