* Now talking on #semanticmediawiki * Topic for #semanticmediawiki is: Semantic MediaWiki | http://semantic-mediawiki.org * Topic for #semanticmediawiki set by Dantman at Fri Aug 22 00:26:23 2008 <aib> simile.mit.edu is down <aib> which means my wiki is down as well, since SMW is waiting on data from that page <aib> ./SemanticMediaWiki/skins/SimileTimeline/scripts/timeline.js: Timeline.DOM.registerEvent(elmtCopyright, "click", function() { window.location = "http://simile.mit.edu/timeline/"; }); <aib> i turned off SMW, reset my browser and it's still making the request :/ <aib> i had to disable javascript in order to access my semantic wikis.
Timeline is no longer part of the SMW extension, but has been moved to SemanticResultFormats. So I change the bug to refer to this component. I see that this is not a desirable behaviour. Timeline should not load external data. I guess one can easily change this by modifying the URL. On the other hand, I am sure that I used Timeline locally while being offline, and the problem never occurred. Maybe your browser behaves differently than other browsers. In any case, the problem should not occur on pages not using Timeline, and it should clearly not occur after disabling timeline as described in SemanticResultFormats documentation. Please update your software and check if the problem occurs with current SMW and SemanticResultFormats.
P.S. Please include detailed version information and URLs into your bub reports. In fact, I just verified that simile.mit.edu is down, whereas the Timeline pages on semantic-web.org work perfectly in my Firefox 3.0.4 (see http://semanticweb.org/wiki/Events). Actually, the code that is mentioned above creates a link to mit.edu, but does not download any data. Hence the bug seems to be invalid, and the cause of the described problems is probably something else.
