Description AllenJB 2008-10-26 19:34:24 UTC
I've found no way to exclude actual user entered content from the RecentChanges special page. There is no variable for it in the special messages. I don't know about others, but I believe RecentChanges should include no actual content and just be a summary of the fact that changes have been made.

I would like to be able to make the LiquidThreads Recent Changes entries be just a single line with the author, page, change summary (new/moved/removed/etc) and thread title on it.

I propose that a $4 should be added to lqt_rc_new_discussion, lqt_rc_new_reply and any other relvent system messages that is replaced with the quoted content.

Perhaps a description of why this will not be fixed would be helpful.

At this point we're just experimenting with the RC format. We don't want to maintain multiple formats until we design a good one.
Comment 3 AllenJB 2008-12-27 22:29:04 UTC
Wouldn't the extra flexibility provided by this option help with the goal of experimenting with the RC format?

Providing this as a parameter in the aforementioned system messages would allow individual wiki's to configure the RC format as they choose, which is surely the ultimate format!
Comment 4 David McCabe 2008-12-27 23:27:33 UTC
No, it would not help with experimenting.

If you start adding options to your program indiscriminately, you end up with this: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Screenshots.php

If you have a UI design or information format that doesn't work well, making it configurable is the wrong idea. The right idea is to fix it. I cannot shift the burden of designing a good RC format off to every wiki administrator.
