Description Brion Vibber 2008-10-12 18:39:19 UTC
Once we have a working geographic coordinate database and search, the ability to search around a current location provided by the browser would be rather useful.

The W3C geolocation API could be used to obtain coordinates from supporting browsers; Mozilla's experimenting with this in the Geode extension and Fennec mobile browser. It would be nice to support these when available in the on-site search UI.

Note that Google Gears provides a similar API:

Just noting that Firefox 3.5 beta 4 includes the geolocation API now without a plugin. Would be nice to have something preliminary in time for Firefox 3.5 release this summer.

Marking this as a blocker to 19920. We need to support this data natively before we add it to other platforms :)
