Comparing Special:Log/block and Special:Log/protect,
one finds "reason for the block" rendered in 
italics in the first, but not italicized in the latter.

For the sake of consistency, including with other similar messages, the block reason should be in italics everywhere.

Works fine to me, italicized.

I downloaded latest SVN build last night, and it was still not italicised in the protection log.

It looks fine to me. Try viewing the page in another browser.

on r41885 it appears to be fine.
