Now that we can be logged in to many wikis at once, please also have us use one time zone, instead of having to adjust this on each wiki's Preferences:

Time zone

Server time 17:07
Local time 17:07
Offset¹ [8 ]
            Fill in from browser

¹The number of hours your local time differs from server time (UTC).
Editing

P.S., the above should also give examples of what to fill in, and "Fill in from browser" does not work on many text browsers, so add a note about that.

Switching to MediaWiki Extensions -> CentralAuth. It seems that a lot of people forget that many of the features on Wikimedia are extensions.

Actually it turns out that most, if not all, of the Preferences should
be shared along with the common login. They should be shared by
default (but do offer the user an "uncouple Preference sharing" box...
"and to what degree shall we uncouple" ... etc. etc.)

(That way the user could still make zh.wikipedia look purple, while en.wikipedia looks white, etc. if he insists.)

I would think that background coloration would be set in the user .css, not in preferences? Even moving user_options to centralauth completely (in some theoretical way that wouldn't break non-CA-using wikis) wouldn't have any effect on this.

OK, maybe "I want special mail settings for a certain one of the wikis" is
a better example than my color example, of a user who might still want
an exception to totally central Preferences.
