Currently, using format=wddxfm puts all of the output all on one line, which causes major readability issues. Suggest changing it to something more like how xmlfm does it.

Fixed in r41253. Also polished MediaWiki's built-in WDDX formatter, see revision comment. PHP's built-in WDDX formatter (which doesn't do any indentation) is only used if format=wddx is set (and if it's available at all, of course).
