Description Guy 2008-08-31 16:41:27 UTC
For a while now, when I login to Wikipedia, I am "automatically logged in" to "all other Wikimedia projects" (e.g. Wikicommons).

However, when I click on links to Commons from Wikipedia articles, I am transferred in a logged out state... Doesn't this defeat the object of the multiple login thingy?
Comment 1 Platonides 2008-08-31 17:02:50 UTC
Please confirm that the images at the login page loaded and you aren't rejecting third-party cookies.
Comment 2 Guy 2008-08-31 17:10:09 UTC
I assume all images loaded correctly, but I do reject 3rd party cookies -- only reasonable as a security measure, don't you think?
Comment 3 Bryan Tong Minh 2008-08-31 17:12:52 UTC
Autologin uses 3rd part cookies to log you in on other projects.
Comment 4 Guy 2008-08-31 17:17:45 UTC
May I suggest than an alternative be found? Surely, I am not the only concerned about the plethora of 3rd party cookies out there and therefore choose to reject them?

Thanks :-)
Comment 5 Bryan Tong Minh 2008-08-31 17:21:22 UTC
There is no other way to do it than with 3rd party cookies. The problem is that wikipedia is on a different domain than commons. If you use the secure server for example, where all wikis are on the same domain you don't need to accept 3rd party cookies.
Comment 6 Guy 2008-08-31 17:30:51 UTC
Please advise how to "switch on" multi-wikiproject login on secure server. I can sign in OK, but only to Wikipedia. It does not give the "you have been signed in to all wikimedie projects" icon that it does without secure server...Thanks!
Comment 7 Bryan Tong Minh 2008-08-31 17:40:27 UTC
It does not give you the notice, but you are auto logged in anyway, check for example http://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/wiki/
Comment 8 Guy 2008-08-31 17:47:13 UTC
Sorry, doesn't work. Same as with unsecure server: I go from logged-in Wikipedia via on-page (in-article) link to Commons, to logged-out state in Commons...
