Description P. Birken 2008-07-01 17:59:09 UTC
It has been suggested on wikide-l to not show the box for the default case, namely when the current version is sighted. This is supported by a lot of users (personally, I'm in doubt, but think that it should definitely be tried and might improve things significantly).

More precisely this would mean that everything would be unchanged (no version sighted yet; current version not sighted, older one is; older quality version exists; current version is quality) but that only when the current version is sighted, we do not show the box.

Magnus Manske has suggested that instead, a note should show on the bottom of the page, indicating the status.

This would make flagged revisions less intrusive to the current layout of wikipedia. However, since I can imagine that some wikis would want to have the icon also in the default case, it would be nice if a parameter for this could be added.

This seems to confusing. The box should at least go somewhere, or some notice should. Perhaps Magnus's idea can be tried. Not sure were exactly though...

Well, it is a bit of a change of paradigm: Instead of showing the status prominently in any case, it is just shown prominently if something is out of the norm, with the norm being that the current version is flagged as sighted.

One idea of putting the text would be the very bottom where it states when this pages was last edited. There, it could be added that this is a sighted version.

Added $wgFlaggedRevsLowProfile in r37647
Comment 4 P. Birken 2008-07-23 19:38:46 UTC
Now the problem if there exists a sighted version and a younger unsighted one. If I look at one such article, then I see the box telling me that this version is unsighted with a link to the last sighted one. However, when I go to the last sighted one, the box disappears and there is no obvious way of going back. So, the box should only be removed if current=sighted.

Comment 6 P. Birken 2008-07-28 17:22:13 UTC
In the spirit of keeping the GUI as simple as possible and with the same arguments as before, please enable this also for logged in users. Todays changes to the CSS-classes that really hurt really made a point.
