Please make it possible to set the preferred video format in the user preferences. Right now it seems that when a user wants to play a embedded video in MediaWiki it has some kind of order it calls a plugin. First 'Cortado (Java)', than QuickTime and than Ogg. Well I have Java off course, but on my Kubuntu system I have perfect Ogg Theora playback capabilities. So I don't want fire up Java every time I want to view a simple Ogg Theora video with my MPlayer Mozilla plugin.
Note this is currently handled with a cookie, which will depend on using the same machine/browser.

Independent of the worthwhile feature request "Well I have Java off course" sounds like a bug in the playback method detection. I am unable to reproduce. Jeroenvrp, does it still attempt to use Java when you have java disabled?
@Gregory: I have tested it again. I am now using Ubuntu Jaunty and Totem is used for embedded video's in Firefox. When I play a video file on commons with Java enabled it wants to use Cortado. When I disable Java it uses the Totem plugin. I think it should be the way around, if that's possible.
The OggHandler extension is not under active development anymore. It is unlikely that there will be any further active development. OggHandler has been superseded by TimedMediaHandler: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TimedMediaHandler Please use TimedMediaHandler instead. Closing this report as WONTFIX as part of Bugzilla Housekeeping. Please feel free to reopen this bug report in the future if either anyone takes the responsibility for active development of OggHandler again; or move this bug report from the "OggHandler" to the "TimedMediaHandler" component in Bugzilla if the same problem still happens when using TimedMediaHandler.
