Description Mike.lifeguard 2008-05-28 22:29:05 UTC
For the spam blacklist, please configure one (or more) new blacklists so we can split the current meta blacklist into several smaller ones. The page is getting so big it will may load or search properly. Something like this, I think:

$wgSpamBlacklistFiles = array(
                "DB: metawiki Spam_blacklist", //the current one
                "DB: metawiki Spam_blacklist_2" //the new one
                "DB: metawiki Spam_blacklist_3" //we can even have them configure an extra so that when #2 gets full-ish, we can just start on #3
                "DB: metawiki Spam_blacklist_4" //another one just for fun
        );

This doesn't seem like sensible future-proofing. Better to have sane ways of adding entries, surely?
Comment 2 Mike.lifeguard 2008-05-29 18:16:08 UTC
Of course there is bug 4459, but that will take time and the page will not load properly for me (and others) *right now*!
So this should be considered a very temp solution until we have a better way to manage the spam blacklist.

Erwin has put together a javascript thing to make this less of an issue, but it does remain. Currently, I cannot view the entire blacklist in FF3.0.4, I guess because it is so big. That makes it understandably and unacceptably difficult to manage requests to remove entries from the blacklist. /Something/ needs to be done here, and this is one possible temp solution. A long-term solution would be much preferable. Until then, this or some other suggestion would be lovely.

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Spam_blacklist loads right up for me (tested Firefox 3 and Safari 3)

The page loads right up; display as well as preview work fine and quickly.

Recommend close as INVALID.

Fine in IE 5 / Win98 as well.
