I don't like to fill up my watchlist, as I keep it dedicated to pages that I watch often. However, I end up watching the talk pages as well. Sometimes, that's ok, but other times, I have pages watchlisted that I don't even use. All it does is clutter up my watchlist, with no net benefit. 

All that needs to be done is when watching a page, give an option as to whether the user wants to watch the talk page too.
