Description noumenon0 2008-05-26 16:14:35 UTC
Hello,
I'm an admin and checkuser from Turkish Wikipedia. Currently patrolling functionality (marking pages as patrolled etc.) is only assigned to administrators. Users can't mark pages as patrolled. I checked English Wikipedia other day and saw that there users with accounts which are at least 4 days old with minimum 10 edits can mark pages as patrolled... currently we have few active users compared to our vandalism traffic and hence would love to have this functionality to be used by our users... I saw on the talk page of :m:Help:Patrolled edit (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Patrolled_edit) that if our project is to have the functionality for its users we have to make a bug report and have a local consensus... we've more or less reached a consensus in our village pump: http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipedi:K%C3%B6y_%C3%A7e%C5%9Fmesi_%28ilginize%29 - "Devriyelerin ve devriye olmak isteyenlerin dikkatine!" title. However, similar to criteria set on English Wikipedia, we want to have patrol functionality turned on for any user with an account which is at least 2 months old AND has at least 150 edits. Is it possible to turn it on for users with that criteria fulfilled? Or is it only possible to turn it on for all users? If it is not possible to make it such that any user with 2 months old accounts AND 150 edits can access patrol functionality; is it possible to turn the functionality on for a list of users who are active members of counter-vandalism team? If this second alternative is possible, can you make it such that our bureaucrats will be able to give patrol functionality to users who will be active members of counter-vandalism team in the future? Or just give the bureaucrats the right to assign the patrol functionality to any user (of course in our local community we can determine criteria according to which bureaucrats will assign this functionality)... ?

We really want to have a patrol functionality similar to that of English Wikipedia with only difference that instead of their 4 days old with 10 edits rule we want to make it 2 months old with 150 edits... I talked the issue with Millosh from stewards and he advised me to make a bug report stating our needs and wants plus seeing that in meta talk page we should make a bug report, I decided to make it and here it is ^_^

My username in Turkish Wikipedia is Noumenon.

Thanks in advance,

Kubra aka Noumenon

I for one would welcome this tool on Turkish Wikipedia

You can set it for all users, or auto confirmed users, or just have it so bureaucrats can assign it as needed. However, the link above does not seem to have that title anywhere on its page, so I cannot confirm consensus.

I need a link to a page on the project that confirms that consensus has been reached. If so, I can then either enable it for all users, autoconfirmed users, or just set it up to be assigned manually. The choice is yours, but it should be discussed in the reaching of consensus.

Until I have that, I really should not make this change. Please reply back with a link to consensus.

As FunPika mentioned the link to consensus is: http://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipedi:K%C3%B6y_%C3%A7e%C5%9Fmesi/2008/May%C4%B1s#Devriyelerin_ve_devriye_olmak_isteyenlerin_dikkatine.21

We would like bureaucrats to be able to assign it as needed; we already defined certain criteria in that discussion, bureaucrats will assign the right to access patrol function to those who meet the criteria we agreed upon in the discussion.

There is now a patroller group which can patrol edits. It is currently only assignable by bureaucrats to individual users, with no auto promotion enabled.
