http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:DR1919-1937.svg displays OK, but when I click on it I get:

followed by a long string of parameters.

This is not a bug with MediaWiki, but with the program used to create the SVG. My guess about the fact that MediaWiki is able to render the image and SVG compliant browsers not is because XML namespaces are silently ignored by the renderer.
