With 85 hojillion articles on English Wikipedia, the Special:Allpages summary page has ballooned to 1.4 megabytes of HTML. Even gzipped, that's 190kb of transfer for the text alone, and it takes longer than I'd like to render the page on a 2GHz machine. At 480 article pages per index line, and several million pages, we're getting into thousands of queries just to build the index. While they should be relatively cheap, it feels icky to me. We may wish to think about a new way to structure this index page.
