Reply to comment 1: no. Because of the following reasons:
* it is not in SVN
* the license is unknown (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VariablesExtension)
* it has not been tested with MediaWiki 1.14
* code looks pretty old and needs updating
* if the above requirements have been met, brion can review, I think.
