Description Tyler Romeo 2008-04-27 01:26:20 UTC
It would be helpful and convenient if users could literally customize the new section button on their talk page. Normally, such as on my talk page (User talk:Parent5446), a user must place an input box in order to have users see the "preload" and "editinto" text.

(For those who are unaware, these are parameters for the index.php file when editing a non-existent page/section. The "preload" parameter places text/templates in the edit box when the user edits the section. The "editintro" parameter places text/templates" above the edit box when editing. Hopefully, anybody who sees this post knows this already.)

However, the problem with the input box (or something like the link I put in my signature), most users just press the "new section" or "+" button at the top of somebody's talk page to leave a message. In my proposal, a user could go into their user preferences and change a few options, where they could add a "preload" and "editinto" parameter to the "new section" button on their talk page. The reason I suggest this is because some users, like myself, want users who are leaving them messages to see certain instructions that are usually ignored. An example is on my talk page: it tells people that I will always reply on my talk page. I hope this enhancement will make it into the software, it seems pretty good to me.

Yes!! I totally agree with this proposal.

Just a note: you don't have to use input box tag, you can construct the link yourself and put it on the top of your talk page using big letters: "Please click HERE to leave me a new message". As the bug will be probably marked as wontfix anyway.

Either way, nobody ever clicks on those links. They always press the new section button at the top of the page.

WONTFIX per comment 2.
