Description Allen Densen 2008-04-20 14:02:30 UTC
Hi, this is the first time I've used Bugzilla, hope this is the right place to propose a change like this.

Recently there was a discussion at the Village Pump - technical - here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28technical%29#Time_out.21
about a change to put a box around text that is different in comparison of diffs. I like this change, but it was removed after a few days because there was no consensus to keep it.

I think the change was a great idea, but I recognize that not everyone wants it, and it should not have been made the default without concensus. But I like the change so much, that I am proposing it should be an option in the user preferences "edit" tab.

In order to make its purpose clear, there should be an illustration on the tab's page, showing what it looks like, vs. the default. Maybe several options, including the underlining and coloured background ideas suggested in the discussion, could also be included, and examples shown of each.

Maybe you can keep an eye on the discussion in the link, and see if there are others who like this idea?

In my opinion (I added the border in the first place) this is something that could be implemented with the help of Special:Gadgets extensions.

This can be done by adding the specific style in [[Special:Mypage/monobook.css]]. To enable it from [[Special:Preferences]], a gadget ([[Special:Gadgets]]) can be made.

No need to add another preference.
