Please add support on Special:Userrights to an user resign on any level without the need to keep the default setting ($wgGroupPermissions['bureaucrat']['userrights'] = true;) and without the need to that user having bureaucrat bits. E.g., a sysop can be able to remove their sysop bits, a oversight can be able to remove their oversight bits etc. In the meantime, please delete the file http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/Resign/OBSOLETE?view=log :) Best regards

this already exists, see $wgGroupsRemoveFromSelf
I'm adding siebrand to the CC list, so he may handle the OBSOLETE part himself.

I've translated it months ago ( http://www.translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=MediaWiki:Userrights-available-remove-self/pt&action=history ) and missed that feature completely. I'm going to do a private test on my machine and to create the [[:mw:Manual:$wgGroupsRemoveFromSelf]] and [[:mw:Manual:$wgGroupsAddToSelf]], fell free to fix any kind of issues on it.
