This suggestion is similar to #7288 submitted on 2006-09-11, however since that has not been implemented I am resubmitting it. Please note that unlike the people discussing that improvement I am NOT a programmer, just a regular user, and admirer, of Wikipedia. Within the past year, the Google search bar in Firefox and IE has begun to auto-complete search terms as I type. This speeds up the search process and also makes search suggestions that aren't immediately in mind. I have no idea how it works, but the technology seems effective and well established. I think it would be a great feature to add to the Wiki search engine.
The Google search bar in Firefox's upper right corner also allows for adding other search engines, including Wikipedia (just visit a Wikipedia page, expand the Google icon and click "Add Wikipedia (English)". This Wikipedia search bar also does autocompletions. Older versions of this search plugin didn't provide autocompletions. If you still have such an older version, delete the plugin and re-install it. You probably mean autocompletion in [[Special:Search]], which is a slightly different story (if only slightly).
