Dear friends,

In the attachment I have inserted

→ commons:FULLPAGENAME ←

The textarea for page editing seems to have same properties as the textarea here in « MediaZilla » where I can not see the « → = → » and « ← = ← » Unicode characters correctly. I see them more or less like a « - minus - » .

I assume that after some hours to spend in order to find out how to configure the Linux system from the internetcafé where I am now I could manage to select both an appropriate font and a reasonable font size.

But this (configuring systems) should not be the main focus of contributors. It might be a good idea to offer selections for both available fonts and text sizes either in preferences but much better very closed to the textareas.

I would not object if the implementation would be done via JavaScript.

For the following textareas « id="wpTextbox1" » is already / will be available. See

a) action=edit (both unprotected and protected pages)
bug xxxxxx (at the time http://test.leuksman.com/extensions/BidiSwitch/switch.js was made) and bug 005611
b) « special:Emailuser/Foo » bug 012082
c) « special:Upload » bug 012226

Maybe the JavaScript could be expanded.

Thanks for all your efforts in advance!

Best regards Reinhardt user:Gangleri

Regarding the problems at MediaZilla I will open a report there ( at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ ).

The systems I am using during the last weks have very poor font support. For example I can not see the UTF-8 arrow characters at comment #c0 properly.

Pages at the WikiMedia Foundation (the UTF-8 characters there) are normal better rendered in the browsers because font-families are carefully specified in these wikis.

If this enhancement will be implemented wia JavaScript it might be a good idea to have both the ability to select individual fonts from a list *and* to scroll through the fonts via cursor keys. This would / could render the page localy in that / the next available font.
