As I wrote in above url in support desk I thought there is a bug in rendering page when an external image want to be used as an image link, you can see there is a problem here too :

It works fine in my test wiki (see http://pwiki.j-crew.de/wiki/Test2 )

Which version of MediaWiki are use using? Are you sure that you spelled the variable name correctly in LocalSettings.php?
