Description Purodha Blissenbach 2007-09-08 14:51:25 UTC
SMW freshly checked out from svn,
plugged into $IP.'/Localsettings.php'
but not yet set up via its Special:SMWAdmin page,
adds a broken Javascript to almost each wiki
page.

A popup Window reads:

<quote>

Javascript error
----------------
<krefeldwiki.de>

[Error:
name: Error
message: Failed to derive URL prefix for Timeline API code files
]

</quote>

This occurrs across several browser makes and versions.
Setting SMW up via Special:SMWAdmin does not remove the error.
This makes SMW pretty unusable for us, and we have it now
disabled. Just in case such testing was helpful, we can
reenable SMW for scheduled test times.

P.S.
for errors of this kind, it would be generally desirable
to distinguish between server and client platform, and
operating system in the bug entry form.

This problem is caused by the Timeline script whenever there are non-HTML warning messages in the output. The issues will mostly go away as soon as we have on-demand loading of Timeline (and other scripts) in place. Maybe we can also ask the guys at Simile to provide us with a less picky version of Timeline.
