Please install the MagicNoNumberedHeadings Extension in kshwiki. The extension is available in the MediaWiki wiki at: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MagicNoNumberedHeadings Thank you.
Is there a community consensus to enable this extension? Please provide a link to the discussion.
We have autobumbering off because it breaks the main page layout (e.g.) and makes date-page level-3 subheaders, with only year numbers in them, unreadable (2.3.4 1823 e.g. instead of 1823) Same with table of contents. We asked for repair since long!
Oops. Good that you mentioned the TOC. Just checked, MagicNoNumberedHeadings does not :-[ affect the copies in the TOC, so we actually need two extensions installed: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:MagicNoNumberedHeadings http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:PSINoTocNum This is a very small community. I cannot recall a formal discussion after all the time. There were several complaints about the ugglyness of the main page when headers are autonumbered as per user prefs. These complaints lead to bug 7832, a year ago. Noone ojected. The two extensions together solve the problem. Whether or not, and in which pages the added functionallity should be used is still up to editors to decide. Btw. it is very hard to imagine anyone not wanting the remedy, since it does not affect a large group anyways (having header numbering off), while the others are likely the complainants.
Suggesting CSS (all pages or all pages in such namespace; using TOC wrapped in <div> this could be also per page) or JS (per page) workarounds to hide the numbering.
That is likely what the two extensions are doing. They work without problems in private wiki. Can we pleeease now have them?
Doesn't seem to be anything the matter with the main page layout. Section numbering in general in TOCs is entirely normal that I can see. WONTFIXing.
I've prepared screenshots with and without autonumbering to show what the uggly outcome is but uploading them here does not work. Browser stalls "busy xmitting" forever. I've shortened them so as to make files smaller but still, uploading does not work. So you must believe me without seeing the images.
