It's very annoying for me to have this blank edit summary message on talk pages. While I usually want to be remembered when editing an article, on talk pages I only want to talk and I think edit summaries don't have much to say. Maybe I am not the only one who thinks this way?
The empty edit summary warning is optional and can be disabled in Special:Preferences. Maybe a preference like "Only show edit summary warning on non-talk pages" could be added?
Adding another preference for the preference is almost never the right answer. :)
Summaries are for showing what's going on on the page regardless if it's article or talk. When somebody goes through history after longer period of time, it's very useful, because it helps to find desired edit much quicker than walking through single diffs without summaries. Inclining to wontfix. Summaries are to be filled everytime.
