Is there community consensus for this?

We of all admins are agree with that matter. That will help us to track the public edits.

I think community is ready to work with this. So it should be activated.

Can you link to a local discussion proving all admins are in agreement?

Yeah, it should be a requirement on here to provide a link to discussion, like it is on meta for permissions.
