Your "login" line should say "email address" because that's all that works. I gave a name when I signed up, but you don't allow it for login. The message is a usless wrong statement that I have done something wrong, so I signed up three times before I realized you might want the email instead of the username. If you don't use the username, why create it? Are you that ignorant of how usernames work?
Your tone is not acceptable. Please explain the problem better; where is it occurring, with what username, on what wiki? What is the exact text of any error messages you are receiving? Detailed steps to reproduce this?
I suppose the Bugzilla is what's going on - the login form says "login" but requires the full e-mail address. But that's just an estimation...
I too got a bit confused on bugzilla about this - I believe this is what the user is talking about. It is possible on another wiki they have configured it to use email addresses for names - if so, this is unrelated to the mediawiki software.
Please see the bug 6849 to see why such usernames with sertain characters are blocked.
This is a regression of bug 2146 when templates got redone for the bugzilla 3.0 upgrade. Needs to be fixed in the new templates.
Finally got round to updating the templates. :P account/auth/login.html.tmpl account/auth/login-small.html.tmpl
