When I try to nominate myself, I put in my username and press the button, but there are no instructions in the edit box.

You will need to provide far more contextual information about the problem in order to get a solution, however, I assume this nomination is for an internal procedure (requests for adminship, perhaps) on a Wikimedia wiki.

This bug tracker is for issues with the MediaWiki software itself, and the server farm powering the Wikimedia projects, and as such, this issue is outside the scope of our support. I therefore suggest seeking assistance with the problem on the discussion page of the relevant project page, or via emailing a local sysop or other experienced user, or the project mailing list, if there is one.
