Apparently the FCK people got a wikitext version of their editor.
I tested it, and this is just fantastic for all Mediawiki websites!!!

But it seems they had to change a couple of MW files to get it integrated, although it was mainly developped as an extension.

Could you MW people help them get that as 100% extension (without MW modification) ? I think it would help people getting involved in writing articles a lot!

FCK is ok for simple pages, but it breaks pages with complex templates or extension usage. so it's useless for sites like wikipedia.

The entire concept of wysiwyg is problematic. I would much rather have working syntax highlighting.

Currently at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:FCKeditor_%28Official%29 although it's far from perfect yet.
