This is a simple feature request for MediaWiki to simply provide the version number as a comment, or another element of the XHTML markup. This will help provide users report the "Version" for bug reports, as well as many other tasks.

Version is already available at [[Special:Version]].  Not sure there's any reason to include it on every page.

The inclusion could be helpful for static and archival representations of Wiki-pages (not on a database), for example http://web.archive.org/web/20040209222712/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Here, I cannot tell the version number of MediaWiki responsible for rendering this page.
