My Firefox version is 2.0.0.4 The upper part of the image captioned "Crossing of the English Channel by Blanchard in 1785", overlaps text in my Firefox window. However, the formatting appears right in Internet Explorer. I would appreciate hearing from you about this bug.
You need to give a link to the page on which this error happens. Please also specify the screen resolution of your monitor (like 1028*768).
He did give a link, in the URL field where it belongs. Confirmed that this occurs for me as well in Firefox (as always, shrink down the window until it occurs). I think this is probably a browser bug, and I doubt there's any general-purpose workaround. Content editors should fix these as they're noticed by shuffling things around until it looks good.
Oops. My mistake. But Simetrical, I don't seem to face this same problem with Firefox 2.0.0.4 and 1024*768 screen resolution. How do you assess that?
Just make the browser not full-screen. Shrink its width until you see the issue. For me, anyway, it appeared at any width beyond a certain critical width, so being too narrow shouldn't be a problem.
This sort of problem depends on browser, OS, available fonts, window size, etc. Unless there's actually a weird style problem I'm not sure there's a good workaround, though.
This is Mozilla bug 25888: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25888 There's unlikely to be a generally-applicable workaround. The issue will typically occur when you have a mixture of left and right floats that aren't vertically separated enough, specifically when line boxes are pushed down below the top of a float by less than the height of a line. Possibly this shows up more commonly than expected on Wikipedia because of more generous line-height and/or more alternating floats.
