I'm using Version 1.3.4 of the Android app from the F-Droid repo ( https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=wikipedia&fdid=org.wikipedia ). The thing that I'd wish to have and which I believe will be convenient for most Android users is the ability to look up the selected text (everywhere, not in the Wikipedia app) in Wikipedia wiht a simple action, namely, sharing it. The Wikipedia app should register itself as a handler for the text being shared (and look up it). I believe it's quite a simple thing. For example, I know the Easy Open Link app ( https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=url&fdid=de.audioattack.openlink ) to open URLs via select and share. The only difference would not to open the URL, but to make Wikipedia look it up. As a work-around, I can also imagine a very simple app--a modification the Easy Open Link app--which would make up the query URL fro Wikipedia and open it in a browser.
Hello! We have completely rewritten the app to be fully native! You can try it out by following instructions at lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/mobile-l/2014-March/006642.html. Will be on f-droid soon, I hope. I personally think this should be handled by a separate, small app, and not be included in the official app. Waiting for the Product Managers to chime in.
