from https://app.asana.com/0/1891117540465/2773569521405 Dec 15, 2012 Diederik van Liere: HTTPS traffic poses a second challenge and that is that it generates two hits in the server logs: one nginx hit and on squid hit. Nginx forwards the request to squid and so the squid hit contains the IP address of the Nginx server and not of the original requestor. This means that we will over-estimate the mobile usage from the US and The Netherlands (were the data centers are located). This will affect Andre's country report.

We have fixed this by no longer sending SSL traffic to the main udp2log stream but instead sending it to its own destination, see https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/55394/ Because this data is no longer in the main udp2log stream there is also no need to deduplicate it.
