Besides the existing wikidata-ab list can we also have a wikidata-ab-open list, with me denny.vrandecic@wikimedia.de as an administrator? Most of the discussions of the advisory board can be in the open. The list would be set up for everyone being able to read, but only AB members being able to post.
Do you intend to have private discussions between the Wikidata Board members on wikidata-ab?
I discussed the list with Denny on IRC, as discussions will primarily be public, I suggested we use wikidata-ab as the public list, setting new members to be moderated and then create a new list, wikidata-ab-private for the private discussion amongst the Board. Denny, do you need the current archives of wikidata-ab to be deleted before it is made a public list?
Since it is only a small number of mails, I don't think that we need to delete them. The content wasn't private.
Okay, in that case, please can you open up the existing mailing list (allow anyone to join, "advertise" the list so that it shows up on the main /listinfo/ page, and make the archives public), I will then create wikidata-ab-private, set up some privacy options for it and make you the administrator. It's also good practice to have more than one list admin per list, do you have any other users that could also be list admins?
I would prefer to do it the other way around. Set up the -private list first, then migrate, and then open. I don't want to put all -ab members on the list per default, in order to minimize their number of emails, so this is easier that way than the other.
Per discussions with Denny on IRC, I created wikidata-ab-internal@ which has been setup with private archives and confirm and approve membership. Lydia has also been added as the second list admin for the -internal list. Denny is going to send an email to the existing -ab list to confirm the opening up of the list and will probably open it up on Thursday in time for Wikimania.
