Wiki is loading fine, but bits seems not to be loading, apparently been like this for 10 days or so http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa431/abdullah_ahmad/Wiki.png They're getting a HTTP 110 timeout in FF http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa431/abdullah_ahmad/bits.png Ping looks ok, if a little slow (probably normal figures) http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa431/abdullah_ahmad/ping.png Currently no reports of anyone else having issues, logging this as a notification of the issue, the user is going to speak to their ISP
Traceroute to en.wikipedia.org http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa431/abdullah_ahmad/cmd.png
Hi, I am the user which Sam Reed (reedy) is talking about above. I have talked to my ISP but they say that everything is okay on their part. No one else is facing the problem. I have been trying to use Wikipedia but it's not working. Bigger pages like Taj Mahal, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs etc are not even opening. No pictures, some times only half text is displayed. Seems like a person who has just learned HTML has created the page. Wikimedia is not even working, basically CSS, java script is totally missing. I am currently using Firefox but I tried chrome and internet explorer. Tried different computers too on the same connection. Nothing is working. Help needed urgently. Thanks
Have you tried from a different connection like a library or internet cafe?
Given the success of the ping to bits, it's unlikely to be a routing issue. The note from your ISP also suggests that the problem is not pervasive. I suggest trying a different web browser, trying on a different computer from the same internet connection, trying with the same computer from a different internet connection, and trying with a different computer from a different internet connection. Additionally, running a virus scan and uninstalling adblock software (or reconfiguring it to make sure it's not blocking wikipedia) may help. You can take the browser out of the equation entirely by using 'telnet' to request a resource from bits.wikimedia.org and further clarify where the problem actually lies. There are numerous HOWTO guides out on the web describing how to use telnet to request a web page (eg http://www.nikmakris.com/blog/post/Request-a-web-page-using-HTTP-and-a-Telnet-session.aspx) I hope this helps.
Assuming my page stays, maybe we can start filling out [[meta:Troubleshooting network connections]].
(In reply to comment #4) > Have you tried from a different connection like a library or internet cafe? Yes I have tried from other connections. Over there it seems to be working fine.

I have done all the computer and internet stuff you said above. Different computer different connection, same computer different connection and also different browsers. And this telnet thing is not working. I tried using the steps that were given on the website you stated above.

(from IRC) just to note: changing DNS servers to openDNS had no success (as guessed)
(In reply to comment #10) > (from IRC) just to note: changing DNS servers to openDNS had no success (as > guessed) It was resolving fine, so would've been suprising ;)

Opera Turbo did not work (although I had guessed it will... ) However, problem "resolved" now: HTTPS works - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page works. Maybe there is someone intercepting http ;)
Heh. Not really a big issue then if HTTPS works fine :)
