Split off from bug 29798 comment 19: Provide an option (or reminder, with directions) to purge the browser cache on login. From that comment: > Also is there a way to force a cache purge upon login? ?!?!? If a tool is ResourceLoader-ified, its cache should update automatically after five minutes.
Yeah, caching is one of the nice things in ResourceLoader. It's no longer hardcached for 31 days (unless user clears browser cache), but it's automagically cached as long as it's needed and if a change appears in any component of a module, it's change propagates to all users within 5 minutes. This is one of the side-effects for gadgets that haven't been ported to use ResourceLoader yet. Marking INVALID, this bug is fixed by the introduction of ResourceLoader. If there are problems with porting a gadget to ResourceLoader please report bugs here on BugZilla or ask for help on MediaWiki.org [1] [1] http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk:ResourceLoader/Migration_guide_(users)

Problem is awareness of ResourceLoader among smaller wiki admins. I come from Tamil wiki(hardly 3-4 developers who occasionally visit and dont necessarily keep track of mw development.) where there are huge gaps technically. Probably a Wikimailer to all sysops to convert the gadgets / scripts they use to use ResourceLoader might atleast create awareness and they could then take help of local developers to migrate the tools. Even a quarterly update mailer to language wiki sysops might help. I know atleast 10 language wikis which use older HotCat for instance. Tamil wiki itself upgraded only recently.
