Currently there is no indication if a video is buffering or not. Please add one with a percentage indicator or similar. This is really needed, since without it the user doesn't know if he should wait or if there is an error and how long he should wait.
This will only be possible to do with the "native" html5 player as vlc and java cortado do not expose this information. The native player does give indication with the coloring of the playhead, but maybe a spinner on-top of the video would be good too.
It's not that much needed for the cortado player, since it displays the percentage on the side anyway. The native html5 player should however have the spinner, since it's really beneficial to see that something is happening. When right clicking and clicking "show controls" the spinner is displayed. Is it possible to have this also without the controls (Firefox 3.5)
This exists in TimedMediaHandler which is now the default video player. See e.g. https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/gitweb?p=mediawiki/extensions/TimedMediaHandler.git;a=commit;h=b794081a87e3b7c29146bd6b312e128d1d1923ea or bug 29185.
