Some svg images having valid older thumbnails fail to have newer ones generated. For example, this one: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/16/Stadtwappen_der_kreisfreien_Stadt_Münster.svg/99px-Stadtwappen_der_kreisfreien_Stadt_Münster.svg.png Error generating thumbnail Error creating thumbnail: Invalid byte sequence in conversion input http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/16/Stadtwappen_der_kreisfreien_Stadt_Münster.svg/500px-Stadtwappen_der_kreisfreien_Stadt_Münster.svg.png Working, has been generated earlier.
I think this bug must be assigned an highest priority, because it seem to corrupt every thumbnail generated from file with non-english letters in filename. In very few times there will be a lot of non-english wikis with hundreds of corrupted image.
It is guessed at [[:commons:Commons:Village_pump#Missing images]] that the reason is the use of non-ASCII characters in file names. My personal experience with several problems reported at german Wikipedia seem to support this. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Spitäler_fmi_ag_logo.svg http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Mandatsverteilung_Gemeinderat_und_Stadtsenat_St._Pölten_(2006).svg but this works: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Mandatsverteilung_Gemeinderat_und_Stadtsenat_St_Poelten_2006.svg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Logo_Westf%C3%A4lische_Wilhelms-Universität_Münster.svg If this turns out to be true, it is absolutely unacceptable!
Seems a regression caused by the rsvg update. Assigning to Tim Starling.
Fixed in rsvg 2.22.2-100wm2 and deployed already. Upstream bug report: <http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=557036>
